Trip to Eric's Mission, Last Day, May 30, 2014

Our trip has come to it's end!  We have loved every minute of our time in the South!  The people are amazing, kind, generous and so loving.  It was an incredible experience to be able to meet and mingle with so many people that Eric worked with and served and who he has come to love deeply and to witness that love returned to him.  It will be a great blessing in Heaven to associate with these fine people on a regular basis, at least I hope that is something that we do in Heaven.  It would be Heaven to me!

Our last day, we got up and headed to Parris Island Marine Base where we got to see where Eric taught the gospel each Sunday to the Marines, both members and non-members.  We also went to the museum and learned a lot of United States Marine history.

After the marine base, we were able to have a quick visit with Sister Knight in the grocery store.  Her husband is also deployed overseas.  We are grateful for these young men and their wives for serving our country both on the homefront and in foreign lands.  It is quite a sacrifice for these young families to be separated for months at a time. Thankfully they have the gospel and a lot of support to help get them through.

We also got to visit Ian Webber.  He's an awesome young man that helped the missionaries out a lot.  He's planning on attending BYU-I and serving a mission.

We also drove around in a community called Habersham.  It's a planned community like our Prospect, but without the modern architecture that we have, just the old Americana style homes.  It was beautiful.

That's an alligator or crocodile (can't remember which one they have down there) and it's in a pond in front of these beautiful homes in Habersham.  How does that sound??  How would you feel having your kids play outside with that guy lurking around?  Yikes!

I just loved this neighborhood.  The houses look like they are a 100 years old or more but they are new.  I imagine they are gorgeous on the inside, but unfortunately they didn't have model homes and we didn't get to peek into any of them.  I'm pretty sure they look like a lot of the pictures I love on Pinterest!!

Our final visit was to the Morgan family.  They were so great and rearranged all their schedules so they could have a sitdown family dinner with us at 4pm because they knew we needed to be on our way by about 5:30.  We absolutely loved their family, just like we loved every family and person we met while on this trip!  Amazing, awesome people.  It's no wonder Eric had such a hard time coming home!  He was some kind of hero down there and he was definitely loved and respected by everyone we met.

We left the Morgan's about 5:30 pm and drove about 2 hours northwest to Hephzibah, Georgia to visit Kathy and Devin.  Keith is working in New Orleans and they will be moving to join him there soon.  We had a great visit with them and were happy we got to see where they have been living for the past few months since leaving California.  We also got to meet Keith's mom, Joyce, who's home they have been sharing.

Cousins reunited!
We stayed the night at the Hampton Inn in Augusta.  Kathy and Devin hung out with us til about midnight and then came back for breakfast in the morning before we headed out for Atlanta to catch our 3:30 flight home.  It was a perfect trip!  We appreciate so much everyone who made us feel so welcome in their homes and in their lives.  We would like to invite all the people we met to stay with us if they are ever in Colorado!!  We would love it!

Eric was sad to leave again, but I think this time was a little easier.  He had a great mission and now it's time to move on to the next great adventure in his life.
We had a safe trip back and were happy to be back in our own beds once again!  Now to get ready for our next adventure....10 days in Utah, then 5 days in the MTC, and then our MISSION!
