We joined the mission choir! It's called the Elijah Choir since we are all about family history in this mission and the scriptures talk about genealogy being about having the spirit of Elijah which is literally the turning of the hearts of the children to their fathers, or people being interested in knowing who their ancestors are and connecting with their past! The choir is awesome. Our director is Sister Watkins who has a couple of hymns in the hymnbook. She's the sweetest lady and a great leader. We love her. Our choir meets on Monday mornings at 6:15! Yup! We also meet on Wednesdays at 4:15 pm. We sing every Monday morning for the mission devotional at 7:30 and then for various other events throughout the month.
This was a big week for us! We both earned awards at our zone recognition meeting and potluck lunch! There is so much to learn in our jobs and we are plugging along passing checkpoints as best we can. We hope that while we are here we will really learn how to do family history and that we will be able to find a lot of our own ancestors and their stories. We have already started helping people who come to our floor. It's an amazing thing to see the look on someone's face when they find a record like a birth certificate or a marriage license or a census record that has information about their ancestors on it. They get so excited and they are so happy. It is a very satisfying feeling and you just want to keep helping and finding new information for everyone around you!
Friday night, we went to dinner with Eric and his friend, Tyler, to a place called Antica Sicilia. They have Pecorino Cheese wheels that they import for $1200 a wheel from Italy. When Mike and I went to Italy a couple of years ago with Nancy and Dale, we ate at a wonderful little family restaurant in Tuscany where they had one of these wheels where they put the pasta in it and scrape the sides and the cheese gets all melty and mixes with the pasta and it's amazing! When Eric found this place and told us about it, we had to go! It was delicious and did not disappoint!
We will definitely be going there again!
Saturday was a very special day! Hannah and I had a girl's day out and I got to hold Violet for the first time. It was fun getting our hair done, eating lunch together and getting pedicures but holding Violet was the cherry on top! She is so darling and so sweet! I got to sing her the LaLa song and she held onto my finger and she looked me in the eyes for the longest time. It was so amazing and I was so completely happy! She continues to do so well. She's 4 1/2 pounds and is nursing and bottle feeding now. She's content and just so darn cute. I could have held her all day! Seriously!
Every day I pinch myself that I am here and can see this darling baby growing and gaining strength and getting closer and closer to going home. She is truly a little miracle.
Jordan is doing great! He continues to amaze us with his return to good health. He's now allowed to be out of the house for short periods of time as long as he stays in his car seat with the cover on. He's happy and so loved by his brothers (and of course his parents and the rest of us)!! Miracles all around!
I love reading the Book of Mormon every day and following the reading schedule on BofM365 on Instagram. I get so inspired by the wonderful comments that people write in response to the daily question that is posted to help us think while we are reading. It's a really good way to study and I highly recommend it. Yesterday's reading was 2Nephi 28:17-32 and the question was "Why do you think it is dangerous for people to be "at ease in Zion," thinking that no improvement is needed?
I think that is a good question to think about in our world today. We need to stay vigilant at keeping God's commandments and never think that we don't need Him. We need to acknowledge His hand everyday in every way that He blesses us. Our world needs God and He is there for us. We need to be grateful, respectful of Him and everyone around us, and we need to take inventory every once in a while to make sure we are staying on the right course that will lead us back to Him.
Enjoy your week and find joy in the journey!
