We stayed at the Hyatt House in Salt Lake City for six nights for our special medical/mental health training. Our training was in a conference room in the hotel so it was perfect. We had breakfast each morning in the hotel and lunch was catered for us. Our training was pretty intense starting each day at 7:30-8 and ending around 4:30-5 from Monday through Thursday. We met some really nice people who are going to serve as Area Medical Advisors, Area Mental Health Advisors, Nurses, and Office Support. They were going all over the world.
Our training leaders were Elder and Sister Drake, the other couples were the Blackwells, Spears, Youngs, Sister George, Beckwiths, Briggs, Amundsens, Bleaks, and Ethingtons
On Monday night, Brother and Sister Swenson took us to dinner. They wanted to talk to us about Sao Paulo since they had served there and lived in the same apartments that we were going to live in. They were super helpful and it was a nice evening with them.
On Tuesday night, we met Mike's two brother, David and Jim and their wives Viera and Debbie for dinner at the Market Street Grill. It was so much fun catching up and the meal was delicious!
Here's Mike in front of the Brigham Young statue with all the names of the pioneers who were first to arrive in the Salt Lake Valley. His ancestor, (his mother's great-grandfather) Thomas P. Cloward, is on that list!
We learned so much this week and it was quite overwhelming. We feel like we won't remember a thing, but we hope it will all come back to us as we put it into practice in Brazil.
Friday morning, we stored our four, 70 pounds bags in the Hyatt's storage room and Hannah and Chase (and Addie) picked us up. We dropped Addie off to stay with Chase's brother and sister-in-law, Preston and Caytee, and their three darling kids and headed to Logan. We met my five boys and their families (Jaimee and kids would come later to Bear Lake) at Firehouse Pizzeria for lunch. Todd and Kimiko had unloaded their rental truck into a storage unit until they can move in on August 14.
Lunch was awesome, especially being with everyone and winning four free lunches!
We headed to Sam's club and Walmart for family reunion supplies and then off to Bear Lake! Let the Wild Ruckus Being! What a great way to end the nine months of preparing for our mission! We were so excited to spend the weekend with nine of our eleven kids and their families. There were 34 of us in a beautiful 9 bedroom, 5 bathroom house in Garden City, located just above the lake. It was the perfect house and everyone seemed very pleased with it and it's location. There was a great sandy area for the kids to play, a basketball court, a firepit, ping pong and foosball.
Everyone arrived by dinner time and we had a wonderful carne asada fajita meal together made by Mega and Justin with s'mores by Grammy and Grandpa. All our meals were awesome! Saturday we had pancakes, bacon and eggs from Glen and Kendi, sack lunches (deli sandwiches, pbj's and fixings) at the beach by Tyler and Jaimee, and lasagna, cheesy bread and salad by Todd and Kimiko with local raspberry shakes for dessert! Sunday we had cinnamon raisin toast, fresh fruit, and sausage by Hannah and Chase, deli sandwiches and fixings for lunch by Joel and Erin, and meatball subs and salad by Joni and Eric for dinner Monday morning we had waffles and muffins by Ryan and Ali. Great job everyone!
Saturday was our day at the beach! It was perfect in every way. We had a boat, a jet ski, a great spot on the beach and lots of water and sunshine!
Stay tuned for part 2....
