San Diego, CA, August 9-11

We had a wonderful time in San Diego staying with our dear friends, Julia and Steve Riewerts.  They have a lovely little cottage home that they have totally remodeled by themselves and it is absolutely stunning!  They have seen vision in every single detail. Their backyard is a little beach oasis complete with a firepit and sand!  We had a great dinner with them and then enjoyed s'mores by the fire!  Life really doesn't get much better than this!

One of my favorite things to do is to go kayaking.  Steve and Julia own these two kayaks so they took us to Mission Bay and Julia and I kayaked and Mike and Steve read books and took pictures.  I was in heaven!

Great place for a girl to girl talk!  We have missed them so much since they moved away six years ago!  They truly are some of our very best friends!  Todd lived with them his senior year when we were in Wellsville, NY and he wanted to run track and cross country for Niwot.  They kept Daisy for us when we were moving back to Colorado.  We watched "24" together every Monday night for FHE along with Eric and Hannah!  Too many great memories to mention!

After kayaking, we met Nancy and Dale at Hodad's, a favorite burger joint in Ocean Beach.  It didn't disappoint.  The atmosphere and the food was awesome!

Next we headed down to the beach to walk off some of the burgers and shakes!

The Riewerts had to leave us and get back to their lives, so we hopped in the car and headed off to Mission Beach where I actually got in the water and swam for over an hour!  It was so refreshing and I felt like a kid again! I am so in love with the ocean.  It is good for my soul!

After swimming, we went back to Ocean Beach to the Farmer's Market where we grabbed grilled cheese sandwiches and lobster rolls from street vendors.  Yum!

Thursday morning, August 11, Steve took Mike to see the Mormon Battalion Museum. Mike has an ancestor that was a part of that Battalion.  It was a thrill for him to go there.

When they got back from the museum, Nancy and Dale picked us up and we rented bikes in Pacific Beach and rode along the beach, another favorite thing for all of us.  We had lunch at a restaurant on the beach.  Then we went to Solano Beach which is below the clifffs, down some steep stairs.  Spent another hour in the waves!  So fun!!!  Mike got in and swam with me this time.  We even had boogie boards!

We had dinner that night with Micah at a Thai restaurant.  He is moving to Portland for a job so it was a goodbye dinner for him. We love him so much.  It was such a fun time having him live with us for a month when he was considering moving to Colorado!

After dinner, we headed back to the Riewerts and stayed up until midnight watching the Olympics with them.  Michael Phelps (men's swimming) and women's all around gymnastics, Gold and Silver!  Amazing athletes!

Our time in San Diego was too short but it was a couple of days in paradise and those days were perfect!
