We took a trip east for Thanksgiving break. We started in Atlanta with a visit to Steve, Jenny and kids, then drove with them to Savannah, then headed to Washington, DC and onto Fredericksburg, VA to visit Melecia, Rhett and their kids. This is the first part of the trip:
| We started out our stay with a visit to our good friend Joey Feitz, now Jacques, and her husband Ron. Joey and her kids were in our ward until her marriage to Ron over the summer which took them all to Atlanta. They literally live 4 minutes from Steve and Jenny's house so it was easy to go and see them. It was fun to see them in their new setting and looking so happy in their new marriage! |
| Cute Emmy got contacts while we were there! |
| So not too many pictures of Atlanta...we were only there for a day and then we were off to Savannah! We took this picture because if we would've turned at this exit we could have been in Jacksonville, Florida where Eric is serving his mission in about 2 hours! We were good though and didn't give into the temptation to sneak in a visit!! |
| We checked into our hotel and then took a walk to see some of the sights. Here we are in a cool cemetery! |
| Eli at the Market Street Square |
| Standing outside The Lady and Sons Restaurant (Paula Deen's place) |
| From where we were standing at Paula Deen's restaurant, we could see Steve on top of the building he is working on! |
| Heading down the very steep stairs to River Street |
| The Savannah River and River Street |
| The real reason we came to Savannah--the Pralines! |
| Ferry boat ride on the Savannah River |
| The trees in the south are amazing and we loved all the Spanish Moss hanging from them! |
| The whole city is built around these parks. They have them every few blocks and they form squares throughout the town. |
| Jenny's uncle used to own this restaurant, The Crystal Beer Palace. It's actually a very family friendly restaurant and came highly recommended by our concierge who said that it is a favorite of the locals. |
| After thoroughly exploring Savannah, we headed out to Tybee Island. It was a beautiful day, nearly 80 degrees! We spotted this lovely shark hanging around this surf shop! |
| It was a warm day, but the water was really chilly! |
| Hannah didn't come on this part of our trip. She flew directly to DC and headed to Virginia where we caught up with her a few days later. |
| We do miss our missionary! |
| All of the street signs are these cool turtles! |
| Love it! |
| One of the beautiful city parks. Steve's family loves to come here. They play a fun game on the parallel bars in the playground that they made up called Rainbow. I tried it and was super sore the next day! |
| Steve, Jenny, Mike and I had a special dinner out at this lovely restaurant on River Street. |
| This was Savannah in the 1700's. The River Street area hasn't really changed much except for the boats are different! |
This ends the first part of our trip! The next morning, we got up very early and drove back to Atlanta. Steve and family dropped us off at the airport and we began the next leg of our journey! Thanks for taking us on a wonderful adventure! We loved it and we love you!

what a cool place. The parts of Forrest Gump where he was sitting on the bench talking to people were filmed in a park in Savannah that looked just like the one you were in. I wonder how many people talk about boxes of chocolate and shoes while they are sitting on one of those park benches?

The trip looks wonderful so far. Can't wait to see the rest of what you did. It's always fun to get away, can I come next time?
