Moore Mem-Moore-ial Day Fun!

Here's our fun Memorial Weekend pictures! Saturday was a mish-mash of activities. Mike and Glen started out the day by going to the YMCA to play racquetball. We met up with them at our neighborhood park where one of our young men from the ward, Aaron Wirtlin, was having his graduation party. We didn't stay too long, but long enough for Carter and Bess to have some fun on the playground. Eric worked until 4 (still at DQ), and when he got home we headed to Boulder so that we could get registered for the Bolder Boulder! We had a lot of fun on the Pearl Street Mall watching jugglers, musicians, crazy bongo players and dancers! We ate dinner at BJ's and watched most of the Nuggets game. It was a lot of fun with so many fans cheering and chanting all around us.

We rocked out to our Disney CD collection! These kids have got some wild moves. Glen got into it too and we could see where they got their dancing feet!

One of the most fun things we did was to go crawdad fishing! I have been wanting to try this since one of my friends told me how much her kids enjoy it. We borrowed nets and poles from my friend, Carol Sessions. We brought our hot dog and chicken bait and headed for the ditch up in the Longmont Estates neighborhood. We didn't have much luck with the poles and bait, but Eric and Glen were scooping them up just by skimming their nets through the water!

The water was pretty murky, but apparently it's just the right environment for a crawdad!

Bess is an adorable little girl. She is all girl. She loves to pose and is always ready for a photo opp!

Mike having some fun with one of the little guys!

It is amazing how much these little creatures look like lobsters.

Glen took a little spill in the ditch, but came up smiling. I think he had the most fun of all!

Here they are before they go into the jacuzzi. Yes, we decided to cook them up and eat them! We washed them as good as we could and then boiled them in a pot of salt water.

Don't they look tasy enough to eat with a little drawn butter? Glen, Eric, Hannah, Carter, and I all tried them and they did resemble lobster a little bit, but hmmm, not so much! They left me with kind of a nasty aftertaste, kinda ditch water like!!Carter peeling his crawdad. It was definitely an adventure that everyone enjoyed! Can't wait to do it again with the next visitors who come!

Bess loved Molly and Daisy so much. They really took to her too! Molly remembered them from when she lived with them the summer of 2006--the summer we moved back to Colorado from New York. Molly slept with Carter the first night just like she did when she was at their house.

The Big Event---The Bolder Boulder!!

Glen has been training for quite some time to come to Colorado and run the Bolder Boulder! The day arrived, we ate a healthy breakfast, stretched our legs and headed for Boulder. Mike graciously offered to drive us and drop us off so we wouldn't have to deal with the parking nightmare. He also offered to take Carter and Bess to the Rec Center swimming while we were gone. They had a blast! Glen was the first to start from our group around 8:20 in a runner heat. Then Kendi, Eric, and Hannah started around 8:50 in a jog/walk heat. Finally, Sharma Robertson (my good friend and one of my walking buddies) and I started our walking heat at 9:22.
We all came in to the cheering crowds of the CU Folsom Field football stadium at different times. When Sharma and I finally made it in (we were actually in the very last heat to start the race) the stadium was practically full and the excitement level was high! Soon after we arrived, the team racers started. The winner of the men's did it in 24 minutes! That is a 10k or 6 miles in 24 minutes! We were pretty impressed--very impressed! Sharma and I did it in 1 hour 48 minutes!!! Whatever! Maybe next year we can bring down our time by a couple of minutes.
Glen did it in 59 minutes (his goal was to stay under an hour), Kendi in 1 hour 11 minutes, and Eric and Hannah in 1 hour 14 minutes. I think they all did fantastic!
After the professional team races were over, they had a wonderful Memorial Day ceremony which included echo Taps, a 21 gun salute, parachuters from the 5 branches of the military, and a fly by. As soon as the jets flew by, it started raining huge drops of rain. Then, as soon as we stepped out of the stadium, the skies opened up and it poured on us! We didn't bring rain coats, umbrellas, or ponchos, but Kendi used some of her incredible homemaking skills and found some huge (unused) plastic garbage bags in the women's room and we made our own ponchos. We walked about another mile or so to where we had Mike pick us up.
We came home exhausted, but very happy about having taken the challenge and finishing the race!
We showered, napped, and then Bbq'd some burgers. We played a fun couple of rounds of Apples to Apples and watched the Nuggets play again!
We had to say good bye on Monday night when everyone went to bed. They got up at 4 am and snuck away so that they could be back to Salt Lake for some afternoon appointments. We sure loved our visit and hope they come again soon!

This was another great time with wonderful people! The part I liked the most was being able to spend some 1-1 time with Carter and Bess. Swimming, tickling, dancing, and playing ball are super relationship builders. They are top notch kids that have a family that adores them. Eric, Hannah, and the pets were a big part of the love nest. Thank you, Susan, for doing the blogs and for helping organize one of the best weekends ever.

Love, Mike

Thanks for letting us crash at your place for the weekend. We had a lot of fun. Not sure if I'll be eating crawdads again soon, but they were really fun to catch. I'm still in shock with how fast Eric and Hannah ran that race with no training... very impressed. Hope you guys can stop by when you're in Salt Lake.

Can you say we just jumped out of bed in that Bolder Boulder picture? Yikes, sorry Glen that you have to wake up to that every morning, hope the bad breath wasn't still on me!

Thanks for the fun weekend. We didn't want to leave and wish that the drive didn't feel like eternity or we'd be there more often.
Hope your house recovered!

Are we still on for next year's run?

Kendi

What a funny and great blog! Carter and Bess look like they are having a great time, and you are amazing to eat those crawdads. Kendi, I love how you used your homemaking skills to craft ponchos out of trash bags - good move! Also good times for all of you in the race! It sounds like so much fun! We love you all.
