We spent Thursday night with our friends, Janice and Cal Simmons, in Bountiful. We arrived in Utah just a couple hours before President Obama. He came to Salt Lake and as part of his visit, he met with some of the leaders of our church.
Paul had surgery on Friday morning to remove his left kidney and the tumor where his cancer originated. The surgery was successful and we got to visit with him for a little while in his room in the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
This is Joel and Joni gazing out at the beautiful view from Paul's hospital room. This surgery was a bit harder on Paul than his first one. Quite a bit more pain and his recovery a bit slower. So many wonderful people have been praying for him and he has definitely felt the affects of those prayers.
Later in the afternoon, Mike and I headed to Provo, where we got to see Hannah at work at Roxberry's in Orem. She got off shortly thereafter and we met Eric for dinner next door at Rumbi Grill.
After dinner, Eric had to go volunteer at a special even at BYU. Hannah, Mike and I did some shopping at the University Mall and then headed to Lehi where we met up with Tyler, Jaimee and the kids and spent the night with them. Saturday was a great day; Easter egg hunt, General Conference, and Thanksgiving Point!

Mike got three tickets to go to the Priesthood session of conference at the conference center so he went with his brother Jim and Tyler. Eric was singing in that session with the BYU Men's Chorus. It was awesome for them to all be there and it was such a great experience for Eric to be able to sing in conference!
Easter morning, we were with Tyler and Jaimee and got to see some happy little Easter faces. We had a nice Easter brunch with them and Teresa (Jaimee's stepmom), watched Sunday morning conference and then headed up to spend some time with Paul, Joni, Ellie and Reese.

We couldn't decide what to do for Easter dinner, so we decided to get all the ingredients and take the meal to Joel and Erin's and prepare it there with them. It turned out to be one of the easiest and best Easter dinner's ever! The day was kind of a miracle because we didn't know how to see everyone or where to eat and we prayed it would all just work out and it ended up perfect! We were able to see all of our Utah kids and grandkids--even Garrett, Louise, and Madison who we hadn't even known were going to show up at Paul's! Thank goodness for Tender Mercies!
After dinner, Eric and Hannah headed back to Provo and Mike and I spent the night at Joel and Erin's. We spent Monday in Salt Lake and Farmington. Mike dropped me off at the Family History Center in Temple Square and I tried to do some research on my family. Didn't get too far, but met some really nice missionaries so it was a fun day. Mike went up to visit with Paul and then joined me at the FHC. We had a nice dinner and evening with Joel and Erin and headed home the next day. We had a special rider with us, but that's for the next post!!
Temple Square was amazingly beautiful! We had a very nice trip and appreciate all the hospitality that was shown to us by the Simmons, Allens, and Joel and Erin. Thank you so much!
