Italy! May 2013, First Stop--The Amalfi Coast

Our journey began on May 14, 2013.  We flew from Denver to Philadelphia to  Brussels to Naples, Italy.  The flights went really well except when we arrived in Brussels, some people came on board the plane and told us there was a baggage handlers strike going on and we wouldn't be getting our luggage and that they didn't know when it would catch up to us.  We flew on to Naples and filled out some lost luggage forms and hoped we would eventually get our bags!  I was happy to have packed makeup, an extra shirt, and an extra pair of underthings in my carry on bag because that really helped. Dale loaned Mike a razor and a shirt and somehow we managed to get by until day 4 when our bags reached us.  Our traveler's insurance offered us $200 each to buy essential clothing and toiletries.  We found that the stores were too expensive and we didn't really want to take the time to shop, so we got by with what we had.  Mike picked up a hat, some swim trunks, and a t-shirt and was lucky to get some of his prescriptions filled pretty cheaply at a Farmacia.

Once we got through filling out forms with agents who barely spoke English, we headed out of the baggage area and were thrilled to see Nancy and Dale waiting for us with our driver who whisked us off to the Amalfi Coast!!  We were tired, but so happy to have our grand adventure begin!!

Positano, Italy.  It was breathtaking!  Really, just like something out of dreams!  We kept pinching ourselves to be sure we were really there!

This is the first place that we stayed--The Villa Rosa in Positano

Our first dinner in Italy!  The Cafe Positano, perched on a mountain side overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.  We had different seafood pastas.  It was pretty delicious.

Our first of many, many Gelatos!  Yum!

A pretty painting that I loved!

Even the bus stop had fountains and statues!

Lots of walking and lots of steps!

When we arrived back in Positano after a long day of exploring the Amalfi Coast, a shuttle was waiting to take us to dinner.  Dinner our second night was at the very top of Positano at a family owned restaurant called Fattoria La Tagliata.  We had sooo much food.  It was pretty good, just way too much!  The location and atmosphere was priceless!
