Spring Break in Hawaii!!

Our first stop was Pearl Harbor! It was very touching and a great way to start out our Hawaiian vacation--remembering that infamous day in our countries history!! The kids are standing in front of the USS Bowfin, a sub that made it through that terrible day. We also went to the USS Arizona and stood in the memorial above the sunken battleship and over 1000 men who went down with it.
We had the chance to meet my niece Cierra's fiance, Alfredo. They are a darling couple who met at BYU-Hawaii!! We got to hang out with them quite a bit. On our last night there, Alfredo made us Carne Asada (grilled steak tacos) with homemade salsa!!! We never ate so much yummy food!! The picture is taken at about 7 am on Sunday, April 1st. They came over to watch general conference and to have breakfast with us.

Eric and Hannah at the Polynesian Cultural Center. We saw a lot of great dancing and learned a lot about the different islands in the South Pacific.

This is Waimea Falls. We were able to swim right up to the falls and stand underneath the water fall. It was really fun. Hannah's favorite thing--besides the temple baptisms.

This was our front yard. We were literally steps from the beach. It was a reef protected beach so there really weren't any waves, but Cierra sent us to a wonderful "wave" beach that soon became our favorite spot! The name of our town is Punalu'u and it's about ten minutes from BYU, the temple, and PCC. Great spot and very much private--not touristy and crowded like Waikiki. We did go to Waikiki one night and ate at Cheeseburger in Paradise. It was fun but we preferred our quieter side of the island to the hustle and bustle of the city!!

Hannah and Eric creating a mermaid. They had so much fun together. This was at our favorite beach, Malaekahana or "Castles." We loved the waves and the boogie boarding was great!

We took a day trip to Haunauma Bay, a famous snorkeling preserve. We saw lots of wonderful fish and even a couple of sea turtles! Very fun!

Here we are stuffed to the gills with Carne Asada! Yum!

Another picture of our boogie boarding beach! It was also a great beach for reading and just plain relaxing in the warm Hawaiian sunshine!!! It was beautiful while we were there. Just one rainy day and that was Sunday when we really didn't do much anyway!

Anyone recognize the Hukilau Cafe? (50 First Dates!) Yummy breakfast, but they were out of waffles so we couldn't build any little houses!

One of the highlights of the trip. The kids got to do baptisms in the Laie, Hawaii, Temple. What a great experience for all of us. It is so beautiful and they were so great to us.
It was a fantastic trip. So hard to come home to 24 degrees and snow in Denver!! We made some really great memories!!!

Good to see you blog again, I stopped coming to the page for a while because I thought you were in blog retirement. ThAt looks like an awesome trip and a lot of fun, Eric and Hannah are so grown up, and Cierra too, holy moly, she looks just like Nancy. If we ever get to Hawaii we'll have to get some advice from ya'll. Did you stay in a house?

I don't think I've seen Cierra since she was a little girl - now she's getting married! Time flies. Those are great pictures. I like those trips where to can kind of venture out on your own away from all the heavy tourist spots and tours. I've never been to Hawaii, but I'd like to go someday.

Looks like a great vacation. One of these days we will be Hawaii bound. Thanks for the pictures. It was nice that you got to spent with Cierra & Alfredo and that the kids could do Baptisms for the dead.
